COMPLETION OF WORK
GS 29-252a requires that no state building or structure erected or altered shall be occupied or used in whole or in part, until the commissioner of the agency erecting or altering the building or structure certifies to the State Building Inspector that the building or structure substantially complies with the provisions of the State Building Code, the State Fire Safety Code and the regulations lawfully adopted under said codes for such building or alteration to such building, as the case may be.
Upon completion of the work, the Fire Marshal and Building Inspector’s Office will provide the Project Contact with a list of documents required by code for the issuance of the Certificate of Occupancy or Certificate of Approval. Documents required at the completion of the work may include any or all of the following:
Statement of Professional Opinion as may be required by SBC 110.1.4
- Final report of Special Inspections
- Water potability test
- Heating, Venting and Cooling Balancing Report
- Sprinkler system contractor’s material and test certificates
- Fire alarm system record of initial acceptance testing
- Elevator operating certificate
- Boiler operating certificate
- Department of Health approvals
When the Fire Marshal and Building Inspector’s Office inspects the completed work authorized by the Building Permit and finds no violation of the code, a Certificate of Occupancy or Certificate of Approval will be issued. The Fire Marshal and Building Inspector’s Office certification that the work is in substantial compliance with the code will be made through the issuance of a Certificate of Occupancy, a Temporary Certificate of Occupancy, a Partial Certificate of Occupancy, or a Certificate of Approval as prescribed by SBC Section 110.
